11th AISSQ Conference on ‘Mathematics and Reality’ October 6-7, 2018 at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar
To explore the deepest mysteries of the nature of Reality through Mathematics, Bhaktivedanta Institute Kolkata organized the 11th AISSQ conference entitled ‘Mathematics and Reality’ on 6 – 7 October 2018, at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar. The event brought together scholars, mathematicians, technologists from across the country as well as abroad. The conference was attended by over 300 participants from academic institutes such as IITs, IISERs, AIIMS, llSC, Jadavpur University, IACS, ISI and many other elite institutions of the country.
His Excellency Prof. Ganeshi Lal, Hon’ble Governor of State of Odisha, India, was the chief guest for the event. Dr. Kishan Lal Agarwal ‘Bhartiya’, CMD Bhartiya Group, Prof. K V Raja Kumar, Director, IIT Bhubaneswar, Dr. B D Mundra, Chairman Emeritus- Simplex Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd., were the other distinguished dignitaries who graced the occasion.
The conference featured brilliant thought-provoking sessions comprising of lectures delivered by highly esteemed authorities in the field of Mathematics, and Spirituality. Prominent speakers were Dr. Edward N. Zalta, Senior Research Scholar, Stanford University, Prof. Bhu Dev Sharma, (Formerly) Department of Mathematical Sciences, Clark Atlanta University, USA, Prof. Luc Bergmans, Sorbonne Université, Paris, France, Prof. Pier Luigi Luisi, Professor Emeritus ETH- Zurich on ‘Science Facing the Spiritual Traditions’, Prof. Henk Barendregt (Video Lecture), Radboud University, Nijmegen, The Netherlands, Prof. Sudipto Ghosh, IIT Kharagpur, Dr. Debashis Khan, Dept of Mechanical Engg., IIT (BHU) Varanasi, Dr. Christoph Benzmuller, University of Luxembourg, Dr. Teun Koetsier, VU-University, Amsterdam, Prof. Sandeep Kumar from IIT (BHU) Varanasi, Dr. Bhagwati Prasad Chamola from Dept of Mathematics, Jaypee Institute of Information Technology, Prof. P. B. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Gurgaon, President, Association of Indian Universities, Prof. Ramgopal Uppaluri, Dept of Chemical Engg., IIT Guwahati, Ms. Jordan Bergmans, Royal Academy of Music, London, and Prof. V. Kannan, SRM University AP, Amaravati.
The various themes discussed were: What is Mathematics; Mathematics and Reality; Mathematics, Life and Nature; Mathematics, Computation and Divinity; Infinity, One and Zero: Perspectives from Mathematics, Philosophy and Spirituality; and Mathematics, Arts and Ancient Wisdom. Few useful workshops were organized for the real-time practices of spiritual elements in daily life. These workshops were on Time Management, Daily Yoga for Healthy Living, Spiritual Techniques for Peaceful & Happy Life and Creative Thinking.
The evenings were colorful with cultural programs by artists from Manipur and Odisha. Participants of the Conference were all praises for the event and in their feedback have expressed great appreciation for the conference’s organizers.
